Website Design For Architects

The Importance of a Strong Online Presence for Architects

Well quite simply put, it’s the year 2025 (at the time of writing this post), and so having a website which you can be proud of, and one that is constantly evolving and updating, is one that will stand strong amongst a sea of others.

Your lead isn’t just searching on search engines like Google anymore, they’re using a vast number of tools to find you, such as on ChatGPT. Google also has its own AI tool Gemini, which is transforming the way Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) works.

Having a website alone simply isn’t going to be enough anymore, and you really want to be thinking about how you’re going to stand out, but more importantly, how you’re going to emphasize your own brand voice to truly find the right clients.

Designing with Aesthetics and Functionality in Mind

Your projects are what should be standing out, and not an extravagant colour palette. As an architect, your site visitors are going to choose to work with you (or not), based on your previous projects, your design style and testimonials.

Your branding should of course reflect what your business represents and what it is doing for your clients and even for society, however you want a nice balance between showcasing your brand identity and your projects. As an architect or interior designer, your main aesthetic should be your design styles.

Invest in professional photography for your completed works, and it's these photos that will do most of the talking on your website.

The Role of High-Quality Photography and Renderings

As previously mentioned, your photos should do most of the talking. Professional photographers know lighting, angles and composition. Hiring a professional photographer will be an amazing investment in your business. After all, you’re proposing 000’s per project, and so spending a couple thousand on photography and videography services will help you make more of that mulla in future!

Perhaps even show your leads a little behind your design process. There could be something unique you could showcase here, or even taking them behind the scenes can build their trust a little.

SEO Basics for Architects: Getting Found Online

Yes we can do all of the SEO basics on your website, but like I’ve said previously, having a website alone is not enough today. What content can you create to help you grow organically?

We recommend blog posts, podcasts and Youtube videos for long-term content that will bring you leads for years! When we first started we created blog posts once a week, and then slowly brought it down to now, once a month. This is the number 1 marketing technique that has brought us clients consistently. There is a blog post we wrote about 3 years ago that is still bringing us leads.

Blog posts can be a great way of getting out your brand messaging, frequently asked questions, more about your design process, case studies, or anything else that you think will benefit your clients. Blogs do not have to be complicated, keep them between 500-2000 words, and always think about it this way - you’re just having a conversation with your clients.

Common Website Mistakes Architecture Firms Make

Words! As an architecture firm, you do not need lots of copy! Now you might be thinking - “well then how do I explain what I do?”! We strongly recommend condensing your copy only to the core content. Your site visitor isn’t going to read through paragraphs, they will scan. This blog states 79% of people usually don’t read copy at all (https://www.whatsthehost.com/statistics-for-copywriters/#D).

Also bear in mind that by having huge chunks of paragraphs on your pages, simply doesn't look great. Your site visitors are there to see who you are, and your design style. That’s all, and for years since websites have existed, reading patterns have shown that people do not read all of the copy. They will quickly skim and then move on. And if in that short time, you haven’t captured their attention, that's a lost lead.

However, by placing beautifully shot photos of your previous and completed projects, you’re helping your lead see what they could potentially have too.

A design philosophy we tend to go by: “Show, don’t tell”.

Future Trends in Architecture Website Design

As technology and design sensibilities continue to evolve, architecture websites are expected to move beyond static portfolios and into dynamic, immersive experiences.

    1. Interactive and Immersive Experiences

Expect to see more use of 3D walkthroughs, virtual reality (VR) integrations, and interactive project showcases. Potential clients want to feel a space, not just view it. Interactive maps, clickable blueprints, and VR tours are becoming tools that architects can use to set themselves apart online.

    2. Motion and Micro-Interactions

Subtle animations, hover effects, and micro-interactions are bringing life to static websites.

    3. Storytelling Through Video

Static images aren’t enough. More firms are using short documentary-style videos to tell the story behind a project — capturing not just the final build, but the process, the challenges, and the creative journey.
