These are two of our favourite topics, because as a business we started out with a major passion for photography which we combine together with our minimalist website services .. which of course to this day remains (check out our Services page). So, if you’re a photographer thinking of using Squarespace, let's run through why you’re going to take major benefits from building a minimal website on the platform (with 5 great examples!).
Squarespace offers beautiful templates for specific uses, and one of them being for photography businesses. But remember, you can completely customise these templates to make them your own!
Your minimally designed homepage should consist of your best imagery and work (ok sorry .. we know as photographers you’re fully aware of this!). Not too many, just a few based on your creative needs, and enough to be able to speak out to your ideal clientele.

The homepage of this website is kept clean, but so effective. The first thing you see is examples of work from the artist’s portfolio, as well as two main calls to action. That's it. There isn’t much text, but the photography does all of the talking.

The second minimally designed website is by Chelsea Northrup, and the site is: Chelsea Northrup
Her website is clean and concise. The homepage shows the three categories that her work falls under, and this is also her Portfolio. It's simple and elegant, with plenty of white space and a minimal primary navigation.

Manny Ortiz
Manny Ortiz has created a beautiful website, site: Manny Ortiz.
His homepage showcases his portrait Portfolio, with a separate page for his wedding photography Portfolio. His primary navigation is kept minimal, and uses plenty of white space to draw attention to the important content.

Mark Denney
The Mark Denney website is slightly different with beautiful landscape photography. Site: Mark Denney Photography.
He has kept his homepage divided into sections, with the first section linking to his Gallery. The bottom of the page has plenty of white/negative space. The designer has also kept a fixed navigation as the user scrolls down the page, to remind the user of the next action to take.

Mike Kelley
Below is last but definitely, and by no means the least. Website by Mike Kelley, site: Mike Kelley.
This business offers a different photography style to the previous, whereby Mike Kelley does a lot of beautiful architectural photography. The Portfolio is categorised into types. The Homepage is kept minimal, with a different style to many, because the Primary and Secondary navigations are listed side by side. It also consists of a slideshow of his chosen work to be displayed here.

There is a similarity between all of these great websites. They have no irrelevant content that takes the focus away from the artist’s work. The homepages of the websites are kept short, again only taking the user to where they need to go next. Which in all cases, is to the Gallery/Portfolio and the About/Contact page.
