Website designers for photographers

If you’re a photographer looking to showcase your work in a unique way, and also to improve the search engine rankings (search engine optimization (SEO)), then we genuinely advise looking for professional website designers to help you with this.

Squarespace is one of the best platforms for creatives such as yourself (websites like Website Builder Expert would agree). Years ago when we were first starting out, Wordpress was our go to for designing websites. Until, soon afterwards, we realized how hard it was to maintain, especially if you’re a business or entrepreneur looking for a virtual ASSISTANT, and not looking for a constant drain on your valuable time.

*sorry Wordpress*

Best website design for photographers

Most successful photographers go for a minimal, clean and slick design. But what does this mean?:

  • Increased white/negative space

  • The photography/portfolio does the talking, with minimal copy on the website

  • Big, bold calls to actions (CTAs)

  • Minimal primary navigation links

Minimalist design is our main philosophy when it comes to creating websites.

SEO for photographers

This is the process of increasing traffic to your website, by using keywords that you want to rank for on search engines like Google. Website designers will always ask you what kind of search terms you want to rank for, to get a good starting point.

To do this effectively, have a think about what your unique niche is. What do you offer the world, and how do you want to show up on search results for your ideal clients?

Example

Here are some keyword examples for an Indian wedding photographer specialising in candid shots, based in South East London.

Note that the (made up) unique niche here is, ‘A candid photographer for Indian weddings, serving the South East of London’.

e.g.

Indian wedding photographer south east london

So you can see that we’ve started looking for keywords which relate to the business’s unique niche. And if location is important, then for sure include this in your website’s SEO terms.

Also, have a look at what your competitors are ranking for, and what people are actually looking for on a monthly basis. We use sites like SEMRUSH, which make it so easy to look for keywords against what monthly searches they have, as well as their difficulty (competition to rank).

The SEO terms will get implemented into the meta (site) description and site title for your website’s homepage. If you’re a blogger, this will play a key role for your SEO too. Remembering to use as many of the keywords as possible in your blog posts will certainly help your website’s rank overtime.

Your portfolio

There are many templates you can choose from which Squarespace offers, including templates like Balboa, Quincy and Tepito. But the type of design involved is hugely influenced by your ideal clients and what they will be looking for.

It could be that you choose to use a banner of images, along with a long scrolling Homepage with some copy. Then, having a separate page to showcase your full portfolio.

Or, you could choose to have a Homepage which just consists of your portfolio, with very little to no copy. But keeping the primary navigation in line with your website goal (e.g. to contact you).

Before working with you on your website, we’ll always request that you do a little homework (but like, fun homework!), to help you determine who your ideal client is. It’s only once some of these fundamentals are covered, that we’re able to effectively design your website.

Check out our Portfolio, friend! And if you’re finally ready to make this investment in your business, then be sure to get in touch!
