How to make a promo video for your growing business

One of the best ways to market your growing and thriving business online, is by creating a cool and captivating promotional video to publish on your website. We will walk you through some basic steps of how to make a promotional video.

BUT, if you prefer to watch a video on this, then check out our YouTube video below!

Why Create A Promo Video For Your Website?

  1. You can really connect with your visitors. By filming a video as opposed to writing a whole load of text, you can share a compelling story in a more effective way, and captivate your audience through a well edited video. You can do this through your body language, by dressing a certain way, using an awesome piece of music and creating a mood with lighting.

  2. The digital marketplace is a competitive one. You can differentiate yourself by using videos on your website, to stand out from the crowd. For example, using a promotional video on the Homepage of your site, we can guarantee there aren’t too many small businesses out there doing that yet.

This is great for food promo videos, where your site visitors get to see where and how the food is cooked, giving them a huge visual for what they will get when they go to your restaurant or cafe to eat!

  3. It adds trustworthiness and visitors get to see the ‘behind the scenes’ of your business. They can also meet the real people and founders of the company.

  4. Videos are good for optimising your search engine results (SEO). The longer your visitors are spending on your site, the longer your page views are, the more search engines (like Google) like this.

Basics of a Promo Video

  1. Come up with a great opening shot, and give your viewers real context of what is being filmed, and the story you’re about to tell.

  2. Decide what you’re going to film throughout, and this includes making a list of the B-roll you’re going to use. For example, for a promo video for a coffee shop, perhaps this would include shots of the coffee being made, customers enjoying the coffee and staff talking to happy customers, etc.

  3. Make quick transitions between the different scenes (e.g. if it fits the mood of your video, you can use cool transition effects in between shots). This keeps the audience mesmerised and wanting more. The last thing you want is to focus on one area/scene for too long, and risk the viewers becoming bored.

  4. Good visuals such as slow motion effects at the right moment are fantastic. This is especially great for fast movements such as sprinkling actions (e.g. in food videos), moving cars or dance movements.

  5. Adding sound effects (during the editing stage) can be quite important in creating a really effective video. Again this is great for promoting food cooking, or the pouring of drinks into cocktails. Really get the other senses of your viewers stimulated!

  6. Depending on who is in the video, you may want to consider the dress code/style, as it needs to fit the brand of what you’re marketing.
